Red hook waterfront art show opens this weekend

The guys at BWAC - www.bwac.org - invited me to take an open panel at their show, RED HOOKED that opens this weekend. It's up thru aug 22 on Van Brundt St. on the pier (link and map below).  This is oneof the most beautiful places to show work, and I'm really happy they asked me to come back.  I'll be gallery sitting on August 21st & 22nd for show closing in case you'd like to drop in.

I got back to my place a few minutes ago after hanging my work up on the second floor in the back over looking the statue of liberty.  You have to go to the second floor if you'd like to see my stuff.

Piano for four hands, little girls playing Greig's piece for the Ibsen play Peer Gynt

My sis, the triple threat actor in LA is gonna take on one part of this piece, I get the other.  She found out I got a good keyboard this week during her visit and is already planning our next recital.  She did pick an awesome piece - these little girls are bad ass.  I can't wait to get the sheet music!!!

Work in progress for the July 8th Giacobetti Paul Gallery in DUMBO

I'm working up a series on archetypes of joymakers, and this is based on the mythical sisters known as the Winegrowers.  Where they lived, the vineyards were always the best, thus, the city was pretty much the best place to live.  People vied for their residency.

Sarah Valeri is an NYU trained art therapist and painter ready to heal up any scars you might have, (especially the post-MFA sufferer), that prevent you from making the art you have in your insides.  Not inside you like the baby facesucker on aliens, but like a beautiful butterfly inside its chrysalis.  Or like aliens.  I dunno what you got in there.  Come even if you're well-adjusted (living in BK?? yeah, that's likely) and just want to make art.

screw selling art outside in manhattan today.

Sorry if you stop by Union Square to see me today.  I caved.  It is horrible outside.  It's too hot, dammit.  I'm staying in Brooklyn to finish a figure sketch I'm working up for the July 8th summer group show opening at the Giacobetti Paul Gallery in Dumbo.  I'll post images later if I finish it today.

Next is a one foot square on wood called Sorceress.  The shot below was taken a few steps prior to the final image.  The figure has chin length hair, for instance, but it's all pretty much there in the shot.  I'll upload a picture of it as it looks now once I get myself set up at in Union Square this afternoon.

I've been covering Mayor Bloomberg's push to choke out the the artists markets that spring up in the parks. It's more crowded lately because people are hustling hard for cash. It's not that Bloomberg is trying to open the space up in the parks. That's how he's trying to sell it. He's just trying to circumvent laws protecting artists so he can sell the space to offical vendor like the giant Union Square fuckstorm, the Christmas Market.

The NYCLU actually stepped in early in the spring to endorse the artists' and penned a letter to the parks office urging them to consider keeping the current laws in place rather than try to limit artists in NYC parks.  I'll keep covering the story, and I'll try to keep selling drawings in Union Square.
